Eagles Longtime Team Executive Jim Gallagher Has Died at 88

Longtime Eagles team executive Jim Gallagher has died at the age of 88.

Gallagher worked for the team from 1949-1995. Gallagher, who worked with 17 head coaches and 12 different owners, was inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame in 1995.

"Jim was one of the kindest and most remarkable men you could ever meet," Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement Saturday. "His dedication to this organization went far beyond the 46 years he spent here, and his impact was far reaching. Everyone who was fortunate enough to meet Jim knows how much he loved the Eagles, but also how much he truly cared for and invested in the lives of others. To borrow one of his famous phrases, Jim was a β€˜first-round pick.' On behalf of the entire Eagles family, I would like to extend our condolences to the Gallaghers."

Gallagher wore several hats for the Eagles. His roles included personnel director, public relations, director of sales and marketing, director of alumni relations and traveling secretary.

A Philadelphia native, Gallagher was a graduate of Northeast Catholic High School and later joined the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of 59 years, three sons, three daughters and 16 grandchildren.
