The Eagles talked all offseason about how strapped they were in salary cap space and how a big deal wasn't likely.
Pshhh. Forget that.
The Eagles and de facto general manager Howie Roseoman have landed former Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery on a one-year deal. The contract is worth $14 million, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. It's not the major deal expected for Jefferey; this is more of a show-me deal.
But it certainly makes the Eagles much more dangerous in 2017.
With the signing of Torrey Smith earlier in the day, the Eagles have finally gotten Carson Wentz some real weapons for his second NFL season. As of now, the Eagles will have Jeffery on one side, Smith on the other, with Jordan Matthews and Zach Ertz in the middle. That's pretty formidable.
Jeffery, 27, caught 52 passes for 821 yards and two touchdowns in 2016. He was also suspended for a PED violation. One more and he'll be suspended for 10 games, just like Lane Johnson was in 2016.

Jeffery hasn't eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark since 2014, when he was one of the best receivers in the NFL. In 2013-14, he caught 174 passes for 2,554 yards and 17 touchdowns.
At 6-3, 218 pounds, Jeffery is the type of big receiver the Eagles clearly wanted to pair with the speedy Smith.
