Prospective soccer stars are traveling from far and wide to try to score a spot on Philly's all new Major League Soccer team.

They may be coming from different states, countries and possibly even hemispheres, but these athletes only have one thing on their minds -- get onto the Philadelphia Union's innaugural roster.

The first tryouts are this weekend but there will be a shot next month for anyone who thinks they have what it takes to play in the MLS. Anyone can still register for open tryouts that will be at UPenn's Rhodes Field in Philly the weekend of Dec. 5.

If you already live here and you've got some soccer skills, why not tryout?

"Soccer is the world's game and in MLS, we are rapidly becoming one of the more demanding leagues in the world," said Team Manager Peter Nowak. "So, while we are looking for a diamond in the rough, we also know that there could very well be someone out there as yet undiscovered. If we find one, we'll be happy to give him a chance to earn his way onto our team."

Tryouts to be a part of the Philadelphia Union won't be easy. In fact, they'll be extremely intense, consisting of a fitness evaluation and a series of half-hour long scrimmages. But, so what? You could be the one they pick -- and that would be pretty awesome.

The team's opening game is March  25 in Seattle and they will make their Philly debut April 10 against D.C. United.
