Winter Classic Start Pushed Back

Game now to start at 3 p.m. instead of 1

Mother Nature is once again forcing the NHL to bump back the start time of the Winter Classic.

The Flyers-Rangers game outside at Citizens Bank Park Monday will start at 3 p.m. instead of 1 as originally planned.

The NHL announced the move Sunday afternoon as temperatures on New Year’s Day pushed into the mid-50s.

The game originally was scheduled for 1 p.m., ET. The revised start time decision was based on tomorrow's weather forecast and should offer optimal game conditions for players and fans.

The forecasted high for Monday was around 41 degrees with some clouds.

Saturday’s alumni game was also pushed back a couple hours due to warm temperatures and last season the NHL pushed the Winter Classic in Pittsburgh from day to prime time to accommodate weather.

Also for fans watching at home

In you were lucky enough to score a ticket and/or had plans on heading down to the Classic, note parking lots will open at 9 a.m. the Spectator Plaza will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and gates to CBP will open at 1 p.m.

Also for fans watching at home, the game -- which will be broadcast on NBC10 -- shouldn't now conflict with Penn State's noon start in the TcketCity Bowl. And the pre-game broadcast will still begin at 1 p.m. on NBC, @NBCSportsPR tweeted.
