Villanova Suspends Basketball Player

JayVaughn Pinkston, a freshman forward for the Villanova Wildcats and student at the university, has been suspended for the Spring 2011 semester, according to a Villanova University e-mail.

Pinkston was charged with simple assault and harassment on Thursday, Nov. 11. Upper Merion Police believe Pinkston was involved in an altercation that sent two other students to Bryn Mawr Hospital.

Pinkston was a highly touted recruit for the Wildcats. During his suspension, the freshman forward will not be able to play basketball for the university or attend classes.

He will regain his status as a “student in good standing,” says the e-mail, in June 2011, allowing him to continue with his academics and athletics at Villanova, which he intends to do.

“I am sorry. This situation is my responsibility and I have learned from it," said Pinkston in an emailed response. "I am going to work extremely hard so that I can return to the Villanova family in June.”

JayVaughn has a hearing scheduled for December 15, according to the Upper Merion Police.
