Vick Wants to Start, Not Likely in Philly

QB licking his chops for another chance to start

Eagles backup QB Michael Vick sees himself as a starter in the NFL -- one problem it doesn’t seem like that could happen in Philadelphia.

Vick is happy for the chance the Eagles gave him to return to the NFL as a wildcat weapon but he feels like he should be starting in the NFL, he said on the Dan Patrick Show.

With Donovan McNabb embedded as the starter (for now) and Kevin Kolb waiting in the wings for his chance to shine, Vick likely wouldn’t be a starter with Philly.

With plenty of teams (Buffalo, San Francisco, Jacksonville, Carolina, etc.) possibly in the market for a starting QB the Birds could find plenty of suitors for Vick should they pick up his $5-million option. Then again the Eagles could also keep Vick or just flat out let him walk away without compensation.

Vick and his agent put no timetable on the Eagles making a decision if they would keep him or not, he said.

The 29-year-old didn’t rule out a return to Philly as a backup.

"I like the coaching staff. I like the people around there. Maybe I would do it. Who knows?" he told Patrick.

The confident QB sees himself as a “Top 10” QB in the league despite being away from the game as a regular player since the 2006 season. After serving 18 months in prisons for his role in a dogfighting ring he returned to the NFL mostly as a wildcat option for the Birds.

Vick didn’t answer Patrick’s question about if Vick or McNabb was more likely to return to Philly. He did say though that he could see McNabb making a John Elway-esque run to a late-career championship.

As of now Vick remains a Bird and his future remains uncertain. The only thing that is certain is that the much-hyped reality show The Michael Vick Project debuts Tuesday night.
