USA Hockey Accidentally Tells 67-Year-Old Canadian He Could Make Team in Sochi

USA Hockey thought they were sending a text to Vancouver Canucks forward Ryan Kesler, but the Michigan-native changed his number without team's knowledge

In an effort to keep their roster for the Winter Olympics in Sochi a secret, team USA hockey sent players text messages this week to let them know they were in the final mix.

One player, however, didn't get the message. Vancouver Canucks forward and Michigan-native Ryan Kesler, known for his shifty two-way play, failed to inform the team he changed his phone number.

As a result, a 67-year-old Canadian man got the news, instead, TSN's Gord Miller said in a Twitter post. Having fun with the mixup, the man replied, according to Miller. "I'm a 67 year old Canadian in Vancouver, I'd be happy to play for you," before later adding, "I think Canada would be even happier if I played for you."

Kesler eventually got the news and will most likely be centering the team's second line.

“Obviously I’m excited, honored,” Kesler said after the Canucks 4-2 loss to the Lightning on Wednesday. “It’s going to be a special experience for me. I’m looking forward to it.
