Maccabi Games Bring 1,000-Plus Athletes to Philly

Volunteers are still needed for the 2011 Maccabi Games

The 2011 JCC Maccabi Games are coming to the Philly and you can join in on the fun.

The Games features young Jewish athletes ages 13 to 16 from around North America competing in 13 different sports from swimming to basketball and even dance.

More than 1,000 athletes are set to come to Philly for the Olympic-style competition from August 14 to 19

It's the second time in Maccabi's 29-year history the event will be in "the City of Brotherly Love."

The Games are about more than just competition. Athletes will also give back to the community by participating in the Day of Caring and Sharing working with other local organizations.

“Since we learned we would be the hosts this year we have been working extremely hard to insure that the games in Philadelphia will be one of the best ever” said co-chairman Adam Sherman.

Looking to get in on the fun without having to break a sweat? Families are still needed for housing athletes.

If you would like to volunteer and be a blessing to a child please contact the Maccabi offices at (610) 896-7770 ext. 102 or e-mail machousing@phillyjcc.org.
