Iverson Could Re-Sign Today

Allen Iverson seems to be "The Answer” to the Sixers problems once again.

The 76ers put the ball in AI's court and their former star could come out of retirement to join the team as early as Monday, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein.

Iverson’s agent Leon Rose and Sixers General Manager Ed Stefanski allegedly sat down Tuesday to hammer out details on a deal, reported the Daily News.

The team laid out an non-guaranteed deal and left it up to Iverson to give his answer if would accept the terms, according to the Daily News.

The one-year proposal would pay Iverson the veterans’ minimum of a prorated $1.3 million for the rest of the season, according to various sources.

Iverson would really be paid less than $700,000 when it would be all said and done, according to 610 WIP's Howard Eskin.

Sources say Iverson’s return to Philly was “far more likely than not,” according to ESPN.

Rose wouldn't confirm anything Tuesday when NBCPhiladelphia's John Clark caught up with him.

But, Rose did leave a hint. "Allen definitely has a warm spot in his heart for Philadelphia," he said.

Iverson could be drawn to his former stomping grounds because of the chance to start in place of injured guard Lou Williams, who is out about two months with a broken jaw. Iverson still thinks he can be a top-notch offensive threat in the NBA and this situation could help him prove that he is still "The Answer" on the stat sheet.

With the Sixers slumping through a seven-game losing streak the team could, at worst, use a spark.

But, the seemingly impending deal would be as much about Iverson’s ability to score (career 27 points per game) as it would be about getting some more bodies in the seats down at the Wachovia Center.

The Sixers were dead last in the NBA in percentage capacity (58.9-percent) and second to last in total attendance (nearly 12,000 per game) so far this season.

Monday would be the perfect start date for Iverson as the Sixers return home after a tough four-game road trip. Just imagine how fired up the crowd would be as the public address announcer says “in his 14th season out of Georgetown, please welcome back “The Answer,” Allen Ivvvveeeeeerrrrrrsssssooooonnnnnn.”
