Collins was a former 76ers draft pick and player

The Philadelphia 76ers will officially have a new head coach Friday, sources tell NBC Philadelphia.

Doug Collins has been tapped to lead the team after making an agreement Thursday night, sources confirm.

The Sixers are set to make the official announcement on Friday. The terms of the deal weren't immediately known but a source told the AP that is was going to be a four-year agreement.

Collins is a franchise alumnus who played as a forward from 1973 to 1981. He then went on to coach Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in the late 1980s.

Collins also did coaching stints in Detroit and D.C. Most recently, he's been a basketball analyst for TNT.

During Sports Final Sunday night, Howard Eskin reported Collins would be the team's choice and that the announcement would come at the end of this week.

Sixers president Ed Stefanski and Collins first met on May 1 about the job. The pool of candidates included former Dallas coach Avery Johnson and Toronto coach Sam Mitchell.
