Schmidt to Show Guys the Ropes

All-Time great to help team in Clearwater

All-time Phillies' great Mike Schmidt will be showing the modern day Phightins a few things on the field this spring.

Schmidt was named as a guest spring training instructor Tuesday. This year will mark the ninth time that the 60-year-old former slugger will be helping out the Phillies in Clearwater.

Schmidt is arguably the best third baseman of his time and could help share some of that insight with new/old Phillie Placido Polanco.

Schmidt’s resume of 10 Gold Gloves at third could help to re-teach the position to "Polly" who spent the last few years playing a Gold-Glove second base for the Tigers.

Schmidt brings greatness to Clearwater -- the Phillies other guest instructor brings a bit of toughness.

Former Phillies All-Star second baseman Mickey Morandini is returning for his second spring as an instructor with the club.

The 43-year-old was a member of the mulleted 1993 Phillies who used a working man’s attitude to win the NL Pennant.

Morandini never lit up the box score (career .268 average, 32 homers, 351 RBI and 123 steals) but he was a .989 career second baseman. He could use some of that fine glove work to help a guy like Chase Utley improve on his .983 career fielding percentage.

Phillies Pitchers and catchers are set to begin workouts on Feb. 18.
