J-Roll Ready to Roll Again

Shortstop back in Phillies' lineup Monday night

Jimmy Rollins is finally ready to return after five weeks out of the Phillies lineup.

J-Roll returned to the Phightins after missing 29 games with a calf injury, said Phillies.com.

But, Rollins won't immediately return to the top of the order. Instead Shane Victorino is staying put and Rollins will bat third, according to the Daily News.

The last hurdle for Rollins’ return from the disabled list was a doctor’s exam Monday afternoon, according to RotoTimes.com.

The shortstop was already running without pain during extended spring training, according to the Delco Times.

And, Rollins made a rehab appearance with Single-A Clearwater Saturday as he worked his way back from a strained right calf.

To make roster space for Rollins, the Phils designated journeyman Wilson Valdez for assignment.

Valdez and veteran Juan Castro filled in admirably at shortstop with Rollins on the mend. The Phillies now must hope that Valdez  clears waivers so that they can send him back down to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

More good news for the Phightins. Catcher Carlos Ruiz will step back behind the plate after taking a few days off to deal with a knee strain.

But, Chase Utley was given the night off, according to Phillies.com. So, it will be at least another day before the whole Opening Day roster takes the field.
