It came down to just three votes, the closest in history.

But in the end, Flyer Mike Richards fell short of winning the Selke Trophy, the NHL’s award for the top defensive forward, The700Level.com reported.

Pavel Datsyuk of the Red Wings took home the hardware with a vote of 945-942.

But wait, it gets better.

Hartnell posed with his trophy after winning but Flyers fans would rather it be the Stanley Cup.

Richards had more first place votes (61) than Datsyuk (55). But, because Datsyuk had more overall support, the 30 year-old Russian walked out the winner.

Don't worry -- one Flyer did end up a winner at the NHL Awards, although it had nothing to do with his successes on the ice.

Scotty Hartnell won the inaugural PokerStars.net Charity Shootout outlasting other NHL players and pros at the poker table, according to PokerListings.com.

Hartnell went head-to-head and beat Canucks captain, and poker aficionado, Roberto Luongo.

Hartnell, a tournament poker newcomer, played down his win.

“I was lucky to get to the final two and I was lucky against Luongo there to win,” he said.

Lets hope he can bring that luck to ice next season.
