U.S. Women's National Team captain Christie Rampone made history Tuesday night during the Womenβs World Cup.
When 39-year-old Rampone came in as a sub in the second half of Tuesday's 1-0 win over Nigeria, she became the oldest woman ever to play in the Women's World Cup.
The Point Pleasant, New Jersey native, the only member of the team who was on the 1999 championship squad, and the mother of two, turns 40 later this month.
Rampone has been with the U.S. women's team since 1997 and this is the fifth time she the defender made the Womenβs World Cup roster.
