Those who really do buy Playboy for the articles will be happy to see this month’s college basketball preview, which ranks Villanona at No. 7 and names the team’s coach, Jay Wright, Coach of the Year.
While we too were a bit confused as to how a skin mag would have the credentials to rank sports teams other than those in the lingerie football league, it ends up they hire an expert for such jobs.
David Kaplan, a college basketball expert, host of sports talk show Chicago Tribune Live and ESPN analyst, wrote the guide to the 2009-10 college basketball season for the December issue of Hugh Heffner’s porn pages.
Among Kaplan’s predictions: Villanova’s Jay Wright is coach of the year while Michigan State will be NCAA champions, with the Kansas Jayhawks, North Carolina Tar Heels, Kentucky Wildcats and Purdue Boilermakers rounding out the top five.
The annual preview also names Playboy’s 2009-2010 Preseason College All-America Team, which is comprised of top college players from across the country. Standouts include Notre Dame forward Luke Harangody, Oklahoma State guard James Anderson, Tulsa center Jerome Jordan, and Michigan State guard Kalin Lucas.
