Slugger for Slugger? The Phillies say no.
“Lies," Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro told ESPN.com. "That's a lie. I don't know who you're talking to, but that's a lie.
The “lie” that Amaro is referring to is the rumor that the team will swap Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard for Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols.
Sources close to the Phillies made the claim last week that the organization was discussing a possible trade of the two power hitters.
Howard, a St. Louis native, is under contract for this season and next as part of a three-year deal he signed last year. $19 million in 2010 and $20 million in 2011 would make him pricier than Pujols in the next two seasons, but not as expensive as the Cards’ slugger to resign, says ESPN.
