Philly Women Get Their Independence

Philly soccer fans make room -- a professional women's team will join the Union guys in 2010.

The Philadelphia Independence start play in the Women’s Professional Soccer league next spring. The WPS league started this season with seven teams spread throughout the country.

A team logo has yet to be unveiled but the colors are known. The team will wear yellow, steel grey and light blue.

The official team motto, “We the People,” is of course a play on the Constitution.

The Independence announcement comes one week after Major League Soccer officially announced the Philadelphia Union men's soccer team.

Many of the details about the Independence remain in flux and the Web site is still under construction. Ticket prices, players and more details about the Independence will appropriately be announced July 4th weekend, the team said.

The Independence ladies plan to play their home games alongside the guys at the new soccer stadium in Chester, Pa., according to the Philly Business Journal.

There are high hopes for the Independence after Philly did a nice job supporting past women's soccer ventures.
