Schneider's 3-Run Homer Helps Phillies Beat Tigers

Brian Schneider hit a three-run homer off Rick Porcello to help the Phillies beat the Detroit Tigers 5-3 Wednesday.

Schneider's second spring homer was the Phillies' fourth straight hit in the second inning off Porcello.

Jeff Larish homered in the seventh for the Phillies, Raul Ibanez had two hits including a double and Ross Gload had a hit and a run for the Phightins.

Joe Blanton got his first spring win.

The fifth starter stretched it out in his third spring start allowing five hits, two walks and two runs while striking three in five innings of work.

Lefty Mike Zagurski gave up a run on two hits while recording his first save of the spring.

Porcello said he experimented with new breaking pitches in his third spring outing.

“You want to do well, obviously, but there's also stuff you need to work on more than other things at that given time,” said Porcello, who gave up his first runs of the spring.

“My previous two starts I had real good command of my sinker and got good movement on it. Today I kind of came out of a couple of them left them up too much.”
