Halladay's Human, at Last!

You know, this business of being perfect is highly overrated.

Just ask Brad (48-for-48 saves) Lidge.

Phillies starter Roy Halladay finally showed some chinks in his armor last night in San Francisco. He absorbed his first loss as a Phil after four straight wins. The Giants didn't exactly decimate "Doc", but they dinked and dunked him enough to preclude another complete game gem.  In fact, that was pretty much gone in the second inning.  By that time, Halladay had given up three runs and was getting next to no support from his offense.  Ah, such is life at the tail end of a late April road trip.

Still, you had to like Halladay's pluck and drive to keep pitching as though he intended to go the route. This body language from a starter is something Phillies fans are probably still getting used to.

"Doc" left the game after surrendering 10 hits and all five runs the Giants would score.  Even so, Halladay's season ERA is still below the Mendoza Line (1.80) and he sports a nifty 4-1 record.  This wondrous 2010 acquisition of the Phillies often looks better losing than many of his peers look winning.

So, if you thought, even for an instant, of comparing Roy Halladay's aura to those of Zeus, Thor, Abe Lincoln, or Justin Bieber... don't.

He's human, at last!
