Amid the Ryan Howard -- Albert Pujols trade rumors that exploded overnight, the Phillies still had spring training road game to play Monday against the Pirates.
And it was a mixed bag.
Roy Halladay surrendered his first run of the spring in the second inning, which was no big deal for Doc. He still finished the afternoon after five innings, striking out six while giving up only three hits as the Phghtins won 5-1 at the Bucs' park in Bradenton, Fla.
It's the other things that happened Monday that could have fans worried.
Placido Polanco injured himself while attempting to catch a pop-up around the pitchers mound. He had to to be helped off of the field, said Phillies writer Todd Zolecki.
Polanco was examined by the Pirates medical staff, which told him there was a sprain in the back of the knee as well as a slight hyperextension of the upper calf. Polanco said he could return by the end of the week.
"I don't think it's too bad," Polanco said. "When it first happens, you really get scared. You don't know what's happening. It doesn't feel right. But now that the doctor took a look at it, it's nothing big at all."
Just in case Polanco is out for an extended period of time the Phightins have options. Greg Dobbs, Cody Ramson and Juan Castro could all split time at the hot corner while Polanco recovers.
The other bad news of the day came out of Dunedin, Fla. where the Blue Jays lit up Jamie Moyer like a Christmas tree in a B- game.
The 47-year-old gave up eight hits, five runs, one walk, and struck out four through three innings.
Moyer's performance against a B-squad sure doesn't help his case for being picked as the fifth starter over lights-out (so far) Kyle Kendrick.
As far as Howard dealing with the Cardinals trade rumor?
“St. Louis is my home,” the Big Fella told Phillies.com. “But, as far as all this other stuff, I'm a Phillie."
"I'm still a Phillie, I'm still here"
