Phillies Leave Kendrick, Baez, Herndon Off NLDS Roster

The starting-pitching blessed Phillies are going on the offensive on their National League Division Series roster.

They will carry only 10 pitchers and keep 15 positional players, the team announced Tuesday.

Keeping a couple extra bats like Dom Brown and Gregg Dobbs on the bench is a luxury afforded thanks to having three starters -- Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt and Cole Hamels -- that are expected to pitch deep into games against the Reds.

The only other starter on the roster is Joe Blanton who could be used in long relief.

The Phils will have two lefties out of relief as Antonio Bastardo joins J.C. Romero in the bullpen.

As for the guys who didn’t make the cut, pitchers Kyle Kendrick, David Herndon and Danys Baez were left off the roster. The trio of pitchers along with injured starter Jamie Moyer and catcher Paul Hoover will travel with the team in case someone gets hurt and needs to be replaced.

Here is the entire NLDS roster by position:

Starters: Halladay, Hamels, Oswalt and Blanton

Relievers: Bastardo, Jose Contreras, Chad Durbin, Brad Lidge, Ryan Madson and Romero

Catchers: Carlos Ruiz and Brian Schneider

Infielders: Dobbs, Ryan Howard, Placido Polanco, Jimmy Rollins, Mike Sweeney, Chase Utley and Wilson Valdez

Outfielders: Brown, Ben Francisco, Ross Gload, Raúl Ibañez, Shane Victorino and Jayson Werth

The NLDS opens Wednesday at 5:07 p.m. when Halladay takes the hill. Cincinnati’s Edinson Volquez will oppose him.
