Phillies Lock Up Another Bullpen Arm

The Phillies have locked up a key bullpen contributor for another season while avoiding arbitration.

Right-hander Chad Durbin has agreed to a one-year, $1.635 million contract, Assistant General Manager Scott Proefrock announced Wednesday.

Durbin set a career-high with 71 appearances in 2008. Overall he was 5-4 with a 2.87 ERA.  He also pitched in six postseason game for the Phils.

In his first season with the Phightins he led all National League relievers in innings pitched (87.2).

“Chad came to Philadelphia and in his first season of being a full-time reliever helped solidify what we believe to be one of the best bullpens in baseball,” said Proefrock.

“We’re very pleased with how it all played out and definitely didn’t want to go to arbitration,” said Durbin in a release from the Phillies.

The Phillies only have two arbitration-eligible players remaining -- Jayson Werth and Ryan Howard.
