Phillies Honor Halladay for Perfect Game

Halladay is the second Phillie ever to pitch perfect game.

The Phillies’ organization honored Roy Halladay Saturday night for his perfect game last week against the Florida Marlins.

The celebration on the field at Citizens Bank Park before the Phils played against the San Diego Padres. Halladay was joined by his wife and two sons. Teammate Carlos Ruiz presented the pitching great with the pitching rubber that was removed from the Sun Life Stadium after the May 29th game, according to officials.

In a video presentation, Halladay was awarded a fishing expedition with accomplished angler Skeet Reese.

Halladay will be honored again on August 26 by being featured on the annual Citizens Bank "Pride of the Phillies" giveaway of Dick Perez artwork. He'll receive a special presentation from Hall of Famer Jim Bunning, the only other Phillie to pitch a perfect game. Bunning threw a perfect game on Father's Day 1964 against the Mets.

Halladay made history as he pitched the 20th perfect game in the history of baseball as the Phillies beat the Marlins, 1-0, last Saturday night in Miami.

"It's never something that you think is possible," Halladay said. "Really, once I got the two outs, I felt like I had a chance. You're always aware of it. It's not something that you expect."

Halladay struck out 11 -- no runs, no hits, no walks and no base runners on 115 pitches.
