Phillies Bring Up INF Cody Ransom to Help Offense

The Phillies have brought up infielder Cody Ransom from Triple-A Lehigh Valley in a move designed to help their slumping offense.

Infielder Brian Bocock, who did not have an at-bat since being called up Tuesday, was designated for assignment.

Ransom has played in 197 major league games beginning with the Giants in 2001, hitting .233 with seven home runs and 34 RBIs in 262 at-bats. He played in 31 games with the Yankees last season, batting .190.

The 34-year-old Ransom had 16 homers, 51 RBIs and a .238 average with Lehigh Valley, striking out 90 times in 298 at-bats. He was in the starting lineup at third base Saturday night in Pittsburgh, where the injury-depleted Phillies were held to two runs in the first two games of a four-game series.
