Penn State University is gaining popularity with high school seniors.

Applications for enrollment are coming in at a record pace, said a Penn State official. There has been a five percent rise since last year.

Currently, Penn State has 24 campuses with a total student population of over 92,000.

A panel of presenters reported to the University’s Board of Trustees in November, “admission and enrollment figures have risen in nearly every category among undergraduate and graduate students,” According to Penn State Live, the university’s official newspaper.

The administration is dealing with the impact of the recession, said Penn State President Graham Spanier. Possible tuition increases are still unknown, but faculty members have been told not to expect pay raises next year.
