Sheldon Brown has become the elder statesman of the Birds D.

The Eagles entire squad will take to the practice field for the first time Thursday afternoon with one exception.

No. 1 draft pick Jeremy Maclin remained away from Lehigh. The wide receiver still hasn’t signed a deal and the whole act was starting to get old.

There was some hope for a deal to be completed. Negotiations between the Birds and Maclin's agent picked up Wednesday night, sources told PhillyBurb's Reuben Frank.

Maclin could fall down the Eagles’ depth chart if he doesn’t soon get to Lehigh, said Philly.com’s Bob Brookover.

The 700 Level agreed about the "Mac Attack" needing to get into camp. The 700 guys even broke down the entire Eagles wide receviers corps including a possible battle brewing between Reggie Brown and Hank (Mr. Kendra) Baskett for the last wide out spot.

One guy who was thought to maybe hold out of camp was veteran defensive back Sheldon Brown. He made it obvious over the off-season that he wanted a new contract or to be traded but contract disputes didn’t stop Brown from doing his job.

"No, I never thought about staying out (of training camp). That was never an option," Brown was quoted by Bleeding Green Nation.

The talk on 610-WIP Thursday morning was about the fitness tests that veteran players must take. Former Eagles linebacker Ike Reese quipped that some of the big guys like lineman had a sleepless night worrying about the test.

And as for the Andrews brothers – signs pointed towards both being ready to put on the pads Friday.

Brookover wrote that Stacy Andrews should be ready to practice, according to his brother Shawn.

"I think he is," said Shawn. "We'll see when Friday gets here."

But all wasn't good for Shawn. He was upset after his back tightened up Thursday afternoon, according to NBC Philadelphia's John Clark.

But, Andy Reid hoped that the back problems weren't serious.
