New Arena Football League Team Coming to Atlantic City, and You Can Help Name It

The Arena Football League (AFL) has officially announced that a new expansion team is coming to Atlantic City, N.J. this spring.

The team - no name yet - will play its games at Boardwalk Hall. And fans will have an opportunity to help pick the name.

Folks can go to the unnamed team's new website to offer up a suggestion for a name and for their reasoning behind it.

The winning name will be announced a few weeks after the voting window closes. The person with the winning entry will win an AC team prize pack, which will include tickets, a helmet, jersey and a public shoutout at the press conference.

But it would just be pretty cool to get to name an entire team.

Trifecta Sports and Entertainment (TSE) - the same company that runs the Philadelphia Soul and Albany Empire - will run the new team. Ron Jaworski is the owner of TSE and an AFL executive committee chair.

"I couldn't be more excited that Arena Football is coming to Atlantic City," Jaworski said in a statement. "We are going to bring a family friendly affordable entertainment product to AC, and bring a team that will become an integral part of the community, giving people in the area a team to be proud to call their hometown team."

According to the release, the new team is searching for a head coach now and there will also be open tryouts for spots on the roster.

While the NFL has been hesitant to dive into the sports gambling world over the years, AFL commissioner Randall Boe said the sports gambling and fantasy aspect is what makes AC a "great market" for the AFL.

There will be 12 games in the regular season schedule in 2019, according to the release.
