Damon Makes $8M Deal With Detroit

Former Yankee great will head to Michigan for a year

Damon is headed to Detroit.

Yankee star Johnny Damon agreed this weekend to a one-year contract with the Detroit Tigers, a deal worth $8 million once Damon completes a physical examination, the player confirmed to the New York Times Saturday night.

Damon will move to the team that in December traded Curtis Granderson to the Yankees, bringing a much-needed left-handed batter to the Tigers' lineup.

The 36-year-old's $52 million, four-year contract with the Yankees expired this year, allowing Damon to become a free agent when the team said it wasn't interested in keeping his salary intact.

Damon last season hit .282, adding 24 home runs and 82 RBIs to a Yankee lineup that won the World Series.
