Jon Runyan might be changing careers -- from an offensive lineman to congressman

With his football career winding down after microfracture surgery, Former Eagles’ offensive lineman Jon Runyan may be looking for a career change – and the New Jersey Republican Party is thinking congressman.

Yes, you just read that. The Burlington County Republicans want Jon Runyan to run against U.S. Rep Jon Adler (D-Cherry Hill), according to the Inquirer’s Cynthia Burton.

And interestingly enough, Runyan, a Mount Laurel resident, is “seriously considering” the idea.

Of course, they have other candidates in mind, but are looking to reclaim their seat after last year’s primary battle between Ocean and Burlington counties. Many feel that the former Eagle could be the right person to make that happen.

"We'll obviously try to pick a candidate who has support in three counties," Ocean County Republican Chairman George Gilmore told PolitickerNJ.com. "We can't go through another primary fight.”

So whether that candidate is Jon Runyan remains to be seen, but if the footballer chooses to run -- and actually secures the Republican nomination -- he’s got his work cut out for him, Jon Adler puts up one hell of a fight.
