Moyer Undergoes Successful Surgery

Former Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer underwent successful surgery on Wednesday, according to a press release from the Moyer Foundation.

The 23-year major league veteran injured his left elbow in July and again while throwing winter ball in the Dominican Republic.

Moyer repaired his ulnar collateral ligament in a procedure known as Tommy John surgery. Dr. David Alchek performed the surgery in New York City.

Moyer thanked his supporters while remaining optimistic about his chances for a possible comeback.

“Thanks to the advances in surgery, many pitchers have made successful returns to the mound after undergoing surgery similar to mine,” said Moyer. “I look forward to the challenge of making a comeback for the 2010 season.”

At 48-years-old, Moyer is currently the oldest player in the league. He is also a free agent after pitching for the Phillies the past four years.
