And the Golden Globe for best drama series goes to…The Philadelphia Eagles.
At times this season, it seems as if it’s been one big soap opera in Philadelphia. With more drama than "The Real World", the Eagles have been the center of ridicule and the cause of stomach ulcers all around the Philadelphia region.
And this is why we love it.
The Eagles (7-5-1) will control their own wild card destiny Monday night when they host the Cleveland Browns (4-9) at Lincoln Financial Field.
The Eagles are 10-and-7 all-time under coach Andy Reid on Monday night games and even though Donovan is 8-6 in the prime time spot for his career, he has won just once in his last six Monday night starts.
Remember that old cliché let bye-gones be bye-gones? You better believe the Eagles do.
They’re the healthiest club in the NFC East and playing their best football of the season. Throw in a little prime time television coverage and the stage looks good for a Philadelphia romp.
It’s no secret that the Birds are in a must win situation. The Eagles must win their last three games and the Falcons and Cowboys must lose at least one game for the Eagles to snap a playoff birth. Any loss from here on out and that’s a wrap on 2008. If that’s the case, expect that wrap to be a to-go order because there are going to be a lot of changes throughout the organization in the off-season.
Although the Eagles wild card chances took a hit with both Atlanta (9-5) and Dallas (9-5) winning on Sunday, the players are very optimistic about their playoff chances.
You should be too.
The Birds have won two straight games against the division leading Cardinals and Giants.
Jim Johnson has the Birds defense ranked No.3 in the NFL and they’re looking as stingy as they’ve ever been.
Despite a nomination for best leading actor in a soap, McNabb’s offense is the seventh best in the NFL averaging over 26 points per game. Although he says that his benching against Baltimore in week 12 didn’t help him regroup, McNabb is 2-and-0 with five touchdown passes and zero interceptions good for a 107 quarterback rating since then.
After throwing one touchdown and five picks in the previous two losses, one could agree to disagree.
Look for McNabb and an almost fully healthy Brain Westbrook to have a field day against the Browns who have the No. 26 defense in the league. They can’t stop the pass; they can’t stop the run, so there is no reason why the Eagles can’t win this game.
Factor in that their offense is ranked fourth to last in the NFL, and the Eagles playoff hopes are looking as good as Hank Baskett’s Playmate girlfriend.
And that’s good.
