The Phillies are going lefty heavy in the bullpen to start the 2009 season.
Left-handed relievers J.A. Happ and Jack Taschner were told that they made the Opening-Day roster, said the Phillies Friday.
Happ, 26, impressed the team with a solid spring. He went 0-0 in seven appearances with the Phils. He posted a 3.97 ERA, 15 strikeouts and eight walks over 22.2 innings pitched.
He was unsure if he would make the team after losing the fifth-starter race to Chan Ho Park.
Taschner, 30, spent most of Spring Training with the San Francisco Giants. He was traded to the Phillies on March 27 for catcher Ronny Paulino.
Taschner didn't look good during the preseason. Overall he went 0-1 in 10 games (two with the Phils). He posted a 6.75 ERA, nine strikeouts and 14 walks over 10.1 innings pitched.
The move means that right-hander Gary Majewski is headed to the minor leagues to start the season.
Barring any last minute deals the Phillies Opening Day roster seems to be set.
