Leander Paes

Country: IND
Sport: Tennis
Date of Birth: 06/17/1973
First Olympics: 1992, Barcelona

Perhaps the most seasoned doubles veteran currently on tour, India’s Leander Paes has played professional tennis since 1991.

He made his Olympic debut at Barcelona 1992 and has participated in every Games through London 2012 – making Paes the only active tennis player to have competed at six Olympics.

No matter how the highly decorated veteran player performs at the Games, Paes, a Washington Kastles player, will hold the record for most Olympic Games ever competed by a tennis player.

Paes holds eight career Grand Slam doubles titles and 10 career Grand Slam mixed doubles titles. He earned a bronze medal in singles at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

A direct descendant of Bengali poet Michael Madhusudan Dutta, Paes has received India’s highest sporting honor, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award.

He will return to play for the Kastles after he competes in Rio.
