Ex-Eagle Player Hugh Douglas Will Plead No Contest in Girlfriend Assault Case

Former NFL defensive end and former Philadelphia Eagles player, Hugh Douglas will plead no contest to a misdemeanor in a Connecticut case that accuses him of assaulting his girlfriend at a Hartford hotel, according to his attorney.

Lawyer Corey Brinson told The Associated Press on Friday that he expects Douglas to plead to breach of peace and avoid a jail sentence Monday in Hartford Superior Court.

The 42-year-old Douglas, of Bryn Mawr, Pa., played for the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars from 1995 to 2004.

Douglas and a state prosecutor didn't immediately return messages Friday.

Douglas was charged with felony assault and strangulation last September, when Hartford police say he assaulted his girlfriend at the Hartford Downtown Marriott.

Police say Douglas told them the woman's neck injury was from rough sex.
