LA Rams Head Coach Jeff Fisher Confirms He's Sleeping on an Air Mattress at Training Camp

It's not quite the Deflategate revival, but it does involve letting some air out as LA Rams head coach Jeff Fisher confirmed he was sleeping on an air mattress during Training Camp.

The NFL might have a new Deflategate scandal on their hands.

News last week out of the Los Angeles Rams Training Camp in Irvine, California, had rumblings that head coach Jeff Fisher was sleeping on an air mattress in a dorm on the University of California, Irvine campus.

Now we all remember what it was like to live in the dorms. A small cramped living space with a twin-size bed and a less than comfortable mattress. If you're lucky, you were able to get a mini-fridge and a tiny closet.

Needless to say it's no wonder that Coach Fisher opted to change his new living environment, opting for an air mattress over the worn-down twin bed. It's not the most luxurious of accommodations, but with the team's first preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys just days away, Fisher has bigger fish to fry.

Last Sunday, after the Ram's second training camp practice, Fisher was asked about his infamous air mattress and he quickly changed the subject.

"I'm as settled as I possibly could be," he told reporters. "I've got bigger things to worry about it."

Indeed he does, but by Tuesday's practice, the first with full pads, he was in a much more jovial mood and finally was able to confirm the rumors.

"I've been coaching for 20 years and I don't go into my own personal stuff, but I'll confirm that," he said amidst the laughter from the media assembled. "I got an air mattress."

The Rams have been nomadic since relocating to Los Angeles this spring and seem to be scattered across Southern California while they wait for a permanent home.

First, their offseason practices took place in Oxnard, California where they had very nice hotel accommodations at the Residence Inn by Marriott at River Ridge. However, the team was booted from their complex when the Dallas Cowboys arrived at the summer home last week.

Temporarily, the Rams are training out of UCI, and currently are calling Orange County their home as players and coaching staff have the opportunity to go back to their college roots as they live out of the dorms.

"I have an air mattress and a six-pack of Fiji water and that's about it," Fisher said.

Two of the Rams four preseason games and seven of their home games this season will be played at the L.A. Coliseum before the team moves into another temporary practice facility at the Cal Lutheran college campus in Thousand Oaks, California.

Meanwhile, the Rams new $2.6 billion dollar stadium and team headquarters will be built in Inglewood over the next three years spreading the team across the Southland for the time being.

Fisher feels right at home as he grew up in Southern California, attending Taft High School in Woodland Hills before he went on to become a star receiver at USC. Fisher played five season in the NFL with the Chicago Bears before he converted to coaching with the team in 1985.

He's had head coaching stints with the Houston Oilers, Tennessee Titans and is currently in his fifth season as the head honcho for the Rams. The team's return to Los Angeles brings Fisher's career full circle, as he looks to build upon the team's 7-9 record in their first season in the City of Angels since 1994.

In the interim, Fisher will prepare his team during practice for Opening Night on Monday Night Football and his triumphant return to the Coliseum as a coach in Week 2 against Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks.

After each practice from now til September, Fisher will return to his modest accommodations on the UC Irvine campus and refill his deflated air mattress from the previous night as he tries to find the right firmness for that night's sleep.

Now where's Tom Brady when you need him.
