Pitiful Phillies 1-Hit in L.A.

Kuroda outduels Halladay in Hollywood

The Phillies batters had little luck against Dodgers righty Hiroki Kuroda Monday night as he carried a no hitter into the eighth inning of L.A.’s 3-0 win over Philly.

Shane Victorino broke up Kuroda’s no hitter with one out in the top of the eighth when he smacked a solid single to right. It would be the only hit the Phillies would manage.

Kuroda got Carlos Ruiz to strike out before closer Hong-Chih Kuo came in to get the final four outs.

Phillies ace Roy Halladay (16-10) was knocked around for 10 hits and a walk in seven innings. But he still managed to post a quality start by giving up only three runs. It was the second-straight loss for Halladay.

Kuroda was very good but his mastery was likely increased by the slumping Phillies lineup. The Phightins batters haven’t had much fight in their bats recently managing to score more than three runs in only two of their last 12 games.

The loss dropped the Phils to three games behind National League East leading Atlanta. Luckily the Giants lost so the Phillies held their 1 1/2 game lead in the Wild Card.
