Kolb is Ready to Roll

No. 4 is prepared to make Eagles fans forget No. 5

Kevin Kolb has quite the task at hand.

The Eagles new starting quarterback met with the media on Monday afternoon to discuss his role and responsibilities coming into the 2010 season, less then 24 hours after Donovan McNabb was traded to the Washington Redskins.

“I’m a confident guy, and I knew this situation would come,” Kolb explained, sipping from a bottle of water while taking questions at the Nova Care Complex.

“This is going to be exciting. There’s going to be a bit of drama, but it’s going to be exciting…I’m ready to lead this team as far as we can go.  I look forward to the challenge.”

Selected in the second round with the No. 36 pick overall in the 2007 NFL Draft, Kolb has been with the Birds for four seasons now.  This past season, he became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for 300 yards in his first two starts while filling in for an injured McNabb.

So this is a rebuilding season for Gang Green, right?

Wrong.

“This is not a rebuilding thing. They have confidence in us [young guys] and we’re going to do what we need to do,” proclaimed No. 4. “You have to find your own routine, your own groove, and I’m trying to get that worked out.”

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Texan seemed confident and prepared to take the helm and try to right the Eagles ship.

Finally, after months of controversy that has dominated talk radio and national news, a new era of football is set to begin in the City of Brotherly Love, and Kolb hopes to be a cornerstone in its success.

As for Kolb taking us to the Promised Land?

“That’s our number one goal,” Kolb said without hesitation.  “We want to win games, win the division. But we’re here to win a Super Bowl.”
