JoePa Gets a Trophy With His Name on It

The Big Ten conference is expanding to 12 teams next season -- yeah it’s a bit strange to have 12 teams in a conference called the “Big Ten” but we’ll let that one slide.

But outside of the name, plenty of things are changing next season when Nebraska joins the Big Ten including having a conference championship game.

With all the history of school like Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and Iowa, conference officials decided to pay homage to some of the bigger names in the history of it’s member institutions.

Enter Penn State legend Joe Paterno.

Possibly the biggest honor in the new Big 10 was bestowed upon the patriarch of college football.

The winner of the Big Ten Championship Game will receive the Stagg-Paterno Championship Trophy.

We all know of the accolades of JoePa as he has prowled the Nittany Lions sidelines since 1966 on his way to a FBS record 401 wins. As for the other guy, it honors University of Chicago coach Amos Alonzo Stagg who led the Maroons from 1892 to 1932.

Now the question is whether JoePa will get to hoist his own trophy at the inaugural championship game next season.
