Joe Pa Hurt During Practice

PSU's legendary football coach hurt his arm and hip during a pre-season practice on Sunday

PSU's legendary football coach, Joe Paterno, was injured during pre-season practice on Sunday -- he hurt his right arm and his hip.

"The Hall of Fame coach was injured when he was blindsided by a player running a drill on the practice field. Paterno walked away after the collision," according to the statement the school put up on its website Monday afternoon.

"I expect to be back at practice soon. I'm doing fine; tell everyone not to worry about me," Paterno was quoted as saying in the statement.

Paterno, 84, carried on with his Monday morning coaches meeting by speaker phone from Mount Nittany Medical Center. He's having tests done to determine the extent of his injuries, but it does not look like he'll need surgery, according to Dr. Wayne Sebastianelli, Penn State Director of Athletic Medicine.

And from his hospital bed, Joe Pa also sent out a quick pre-season assessment for Nittany Lions fans,"I like the effort I have seen from the squad during our first few practices, but we have a long way to go to get ready for the schedule we have."

This is Paterno's 46th season as head coach.
