Charges are expected to be filed Tuesday in the fight that broke out near an exit gate following the Jets' overtime win against the New England Patriots on Sunday, law enforcement sources tell NBC 4 New York.
Cell phone video shows a male Jets fan punching a female Patriots fan in the face following Gang Green's big win. The video obtained by NBC 4 New York shows a man on the ground, surrounded by a group of fans, as the skirmish erupts.
Punches are thrown, and one female Patriots fan comes up behind one of the Jets fans and grabs his neck, fighting to pull him away from the person on the ground.
Others pull the Jets fan away from the woman after a brief struggle, and then another female Patriots fan walks up to him, yelling and getting in his face.
The Jets fan punches her in the face. A male Patriots fan then tries to join the fracas, and it's eventually broken up, according to the video provided by Robert Littal.
The law enforcement sources did not specify the nature of the charges, nor did they say who was expected to be charged.
The mother of the Jets fan, who'd attended the game with him, said the Patriots fans had been antagonizing them in their seats during the game.
"I don't think he realized that he was directly hitting a woman because the guy had also come up and also punched him, and he was just trying to defend himself and defend me," said Colleen Paschke.
Paschke said her son "just loves the Jets and would never do anything to disgrace the Jets."
A Jets spokesman said the team is aware of the altercation and state police are investigating.
Nick Folk kicked a 42-year field goal in overtime to lift the Jets over the Patriots, bringing Gang Green to a 4-3 record, second in the division. The Patriots lead the division with a 5-2 record.
The Jets play the 5-2 Bengals in Cincinnati next week.
