Jason Brown Talks Future Olympics: “I Want That Gold”

Brown says his skating career is far from over. In fact, he said, it’s just beginning.

Figure skater Jason Brown may not be walking away from his first Olympics with a medal, but he’s OK with that.

“It’s just something I love to do and the fact that I got to do it at the Winter Olympic Games and made the team and came to my first senior championship event and got top 10 is huge,” he told NBC 5’s Rob Elgas in an exclusive interview. “It wasn’t my best skate, there were definitely a few mistakes that you wish you didn’t make and you wish you could do it again, but I enjoyed every moment and I took it all in and I performed to the crowd and I just had fun.”

And Brown says his skating career is far from over. In fact, he said, it’s just beginning.

“This is just the beginning of my career,” said the young newcomer. “I want to be in it for another eight years so I can’t wait to take this experience and really use it to my advantage and use it for the future. I want that gold, I want to be there on that podium.”

Brown credits his unprecedented success to the support of his hometown Highland Park, Ill.

“The amount of support and the amount of help that they have given me and the love and the time and just their energy-- it means the world to me,” he said. “I can’t ever truly thank them enough.”

And as his skating career continues to develop, he plans to stay just as close to his hometown supporters, including his coach Kori Ade.

“I don’t see myself ever being coached full-time by a different coach,” he said. “She’s just my rock and she’s the best teacher, the best coach and best, best friend that I could ever go through this experience with.”
