Condrey was an early season surprise in the pen.

First it was Brad Lidge, then Scott Eyre, on Tuesday Clay Condrey was added to the list of Phillies relievers on the disabled list.

Condrey, bothered by left oblique strain, was shut down, according to the Phillies.

He was questioned about the injury last week but downplayed its significance, said Zolecki.

But, something was wrong with Condrey during the last home stand. He didn't even pitch against Baltimore and was shelled in his two appearances against Toronto.

After going 4-1 with a 2.14 ERA in his first 31 appearances this season, the righty stumbled in his last two games against the Blue Jays. He only retired one batter in two games against the Jays as he went 0-1 with a 162.00 ERA.

Lefty Sergio Escalona was called up prior to Tuesday's game against the Tampa Rays to replace Condrey in the pen.

Luckily as Condrey departs the most important Phillies reliever could return. Lidge could be back any day as the closer for the Phils.
