Iggy Announced as Finalist to Rep Team USA

Iguodala advances to US World Championship Team final tryout

Iggy could go from donning Sixers' red, white and blue to donning -- well -- the same colors for Team USA.

USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo announced Wednesday afternoon that Sixers forward Andre Iguodala advanced to the final tryouts for the Men's World Championship Team, according to a press release.

Iguodala showed his game this past week in Las Vegas during intra-squad scrimmage. He rounded out the game with 17 points, six rebounds and five assists.

The 15-player roster meets again in NYC on August 9 for further training. The final 12-man list should be made shortly after that tryout.

Some other players also trying to make the cut include Chauncey Billups, Eric Gordon, Kevin Durant and Lamar Odom.

One guy that didn't make the cut was Chester, Pa.-native Tyreke Evans who despite winning NBA Rookie of the Year last season couldn't win a spot on the squad.

Let’s hope Iggy can make the Delaware Valley proud and give some basketball fans around here something to finally cheer about!

The World Championships start Aug. 28 in Turkey.
