Hollywood Hamels Stars Again

Phillies lefty holds potent Brewers lineup at bay in 1-0 win

The Phillies didn’t give Cole Hamels much run support again Friday night but one run was all the starting pitching needed as the Phightins downed the Brewers at Citizens Bank Park.

Hamels (9-10) allowed three this, three walks and no runs while striking out seven over seven innings.

The Phillies starter yet again received little run support from his lineup as the Phillies slugged out just four hits.

The Phillies only run came on an RBI groundout by catcher Carlos Ruiz. Shane Victorino scored on the play. The Flyin’ Hawaiian was only on base after Brewers outfielders Ryan Braun and Lorenzo Cain allowed a fly ball to left drop for a double.

Normally hard-luck Hamels won his second-straight start. His win was preserved by scoreless 1-2-3 innings from Jose Contreras and Ryan Madson.

Mad Dog got the save as Brad Lidge was given the night off after pitching three-straight games.

The win closed the Phillies to within a game of Atlanta in National League East. The Braves lost Friday to the Marlins.

The Phils look to make it four-straight wins when ace Roy Halladay takes to the hill Saturday night against Milwaukee.
