Phillies starting pitcher Cole Hamels left Game 2 of the NLDS -- heck, he left the entire ballpark -- after his wife went into labor, NBC Philadelphia learned.

His wife, Heidi Strobel, was due earlier in the week and Hamels told the TBS announcers that she could go into labor at any minute.

Sure seemed that Hamels was telling the truth.

Hamels also might have left due to a sub par performance on the hill. He gave up four runs and seven hits over five innings. Maybe he was pitching with more than just baseball on his mind in Game 2.

The child would be the first for the couple.
