Doc's in Mid-Season Form

Halladay leads

Phillies ace Roy Halladay already looks ready for the season.

Doc tossed six scoreless innings Thursday scattering four singles and walking none while striking out two in a 7-0 win over the Yankees.

The defending National League Cy young Award winner has yet to give up a run in 11 innings this spring.

Halladay (2-0) was matched nearly pitch for pitch by fellow Cy Young Award winner CC Sabathia who scattered three hits and walked none wile also striking out two in five efficient innings.

But, once CC was gone the Phillies bats came alive.

Yanks relievers David Robertson and Robert Fish were tagged for four runs in the sixth. The big blow was a two-out homer by John Mayberry, Jr. -- it was the Phillies outfielder’s third spring long ball.

The Phillies would add three more runs in the eighth to cap the scoring.

Three long shots to make the Phillies bullpen followed up Halladay with three no-hit innings. Michael Stutes pitched the seventh, J.C. Ramirez pitched the eighth and Michael Schwimer closed it out in the ninth.

The win pushed the Phillies to 8-6 in Grapefruit League play. They face the Orioles in Sarasota Friday afternoon as Cliff Lee steps to the hill.
