Halladay, Phillies Reach Deal — Now What?

The Phillies and Roy Halladay agreed on a new contract Tuesday, according to ESPN.com’s Buster Olney.

That means the deal between Toronto and Philadelphia could be finished soon. The remaining hurdle would be for Halladay and whatever prospects are really being sent to the Blue Jays to pass physicals.

Halladay was spotted in Center City Philadelphia presumably on his way to his physical. Later in the day he signed autographs near City Hall.

He could be introduced as a Phillie as early as Wednesday, reported MLB.com.

While official specifics of the Philly/Toronto deal remained unclear it seems that the basics were settled.

The Phils would pay Halladay his full $15.75 million remaining on his current deal. They would then fork over about $60 million more guaranteed to keep Halladay in Philly through 2013, according to SI.com.

The deal would include a vested $20-million option for 2014, said ESPN.com.

The Blue Jays would help the Phillies pay for Halladay by sending $6 million with Doc to Philly, according to CSNPhilly.com.

In the spirit of “Halladay” season, the Phillies in turn would give Toronto something back -- prospects.

The exact prospects the Phillies would give up still weren’t clear but sources told ESPN.com that pitcher Kyle Drabek, outfielder Michael Taylor and catcher Travis d’Arnaud were heading north of the border.

The Jays would then ship Taylor out west to Oakland in exchange for corner infielder Brett Wallace, according to ESPN.

Once the Halladay deal is officially complete it seems that the Phillies would send current ace Cliff Lee to Seattle.

The Phils would replace their own touted trio of prospects with a trio of Mariners farmhands. Right-handed pitching prospects Phillippe Aumont and Juan Ramirez as well as outfielder Tyson Gillies would head east, according to FoxSports.com.
