The Flyers locked up emerging defenseman Oskars Bartulis for years to come Wednesday.
The deal was believed to be for $1.8 million over three years, according to Phily.com Sports.
The 22-year-old Latvian was originally recalled from the Adirondack (it still seems weird writing that) Phantoms on Nov. 9 and he hasn’t looked back logging two assists and six penalty minutes with the Fly Guys.
"Oskars has developed nicely over the past two years and fit in nicely with our team,” said General Manager Paul Holmgren. “We are happy to have him under contract and are pleased to know he is part of our defensive group for the next several years.”
Bartulis, 22, has two assists and six penalty minutes while posting a minus one on the ice over 10 games with the Flyers since being recalled.
“At first I was surprised they offered it to me because it was such a short period of time,” said Bartulis. “I didn’t think about it a lot. I said ‘yes’ because the Flyers are such a great organization and I am very happy to be here.”
Philly drafted Bartulis in the third round of the 2005 NHL Draft. He has played parts of three seasons with the Phantoms posting 38 points (five goals) and 115 penalty minutes in 149 AHL games.
