Flyers Ring in 2009 on the Road Again

Six-city road trip for hockey team

The Philadelphia Flyers have played 19 home games to only 15 road games and are about to make up the difference and then some.

Thanks to Disney on Ice the Flyers will be racking up their frequent "Flyers" miles as they spend New Year's on a six-city road trip.

The Flyers should be flying high -- posting a 7-1-2 record in their last ten games. They currently are only two games behind the first-place New York Rangers.

Flyers fans should be happy if the Flyers win three of the games on their trip. It is still early in the season that the trip shouldn't hurt or help the Flyers all that much -- so don't get too excited win, lose or draw.

Here is how the trip shapes up.

The six game road excursion starts Friday night in Chicago where the Fly Guys will take on the Blackhawks. The Hawks are currently second in the NHL Central but could be looking past the Flyers as they focus on their outdoor New Year's Day game.

Next up will be the Columbus (that's right there is a hockey team in Ohio) Blue Jackets on Saturday night. The Jackets have a losing record (14-16-4) but have played well at home posting a 10-6-1 record.

The Flyers will then ship across the country to play a slew of games that will keep East Coast fans up past midnight with a trio of post-10 p.m. EST starts.

They start in Western Canada where they will play the Vancouver Canucks on December 30. The Canucks are currently second in the NHL Northwest.

The Flyers will ring in 2009 somewhere on the West Coast because their next game is January 2 in Anaheim. The Ducks are a distant second to the league-best San Jose Sharks in the Pacific.

The Flyers will then make a short trip up the highway to the Staples Center to play the L.A. Kings on January 3. The Kings are only average having posted a 14-14-6 record so far this season.

The trip will end on January 6 in D.C. where the rival Capitals await. The Caps are currently first in the Southeast division but they may have some extra incentive against the Flyers.

Revenge may be served up in D.C. - the Flyers crushed the Caps 7-1 last Saturday in Philly.
