NJ's Emmons Misses Air Rifle Final

Shooter fails to qualify for finals after disappointing qualifying round

Brown Mills, N.J. native Matt Emmons failed to qualify for the Finals in the Men’s 10-Meter Air Rifle competition Monday morning.

Emmons, a two-time Olympic medalist in shooting, finished near the bottom of the 47-man competition (35th place) after posting a 590 and 42 inner 10’s in qualifiers. He needed a score of 596 to make the finals.

Fellow American Jonathan Hall finished 27th with a 592/42.

Emmons now must wait for the Men’s 50-Meter Rifle, 3 Position next week to see if he can take home his third Olympic medal.
